adoption process

Meet GILLY (aka the BEAN) - this ever so sweet tiny tot has a history that we can only make assumptions on as people never tell the truth when they dump dogs. We DO know her life was not the best and we suspect she was a little breeder who got dumped and re-dumped in the last couple years. She is on to much better things now. She was very shy when she came into rescue but is blossoming into the bestest little girl! We adore her.

GILLY is a purebred mini aussie – American Miniature Shepherd (AMS). People would refer to her as a toy size – there is no such thing in the aussie world (AKC recognized) – they are either AMS or Australian shepherds and there are lots of size ranges for both. She is tiny – coming in at a whopping 12 lbs. She now has a gorgeous blue merle coat and has truly terrific blue marbled eyes that can look into your soul. We estimate her age to be between five and six years – probably closer to five (DOB – 5/1/2019).

All GILLY wants is someone to love her – absolutely a lap dog and always looking to weasel her way onto a lap. Her biggest goal is to have people of her very own that will love her as she loves them. She will never desert anyone she bonds to and needs a family that understands that and spends a lot of time with their dogs and considers them family. She can be afraid of new things and BIG noises but we think she was never exposed to much in her previous life(s).

GILLY is the perfect companion for a great family – completely content doing whatever her people want to do… a walk around the block, a bit of play time, a bit of sunning and gardening or just hanging out with a glass of wine and a good movie. She has no need to run marathons or prove anything to anyone but her family and she will prove her love every day. She is kind, generous, attentive and appreciative. Sometimes she will look softly at you and you can see in her eyes she is so very grateful – she is incredibly sweet and gentle. She is so excited for her people to talk to her and actually has the super power of turning her body into a pretzel when she gets excited - wiggle worm to the MAX!!

We suspect GILLY was crated for long periods of time and we are working on her housetraining – she almost has it down! She is learning what toys are and enjoys her play time with all the other dogs in her foster home. And yes – she has a favorite buddy - WICK who is very close to her size – they seek each other out constantly and we know she will need a doggy companion in her forever home. She is learning how to walk on a leash (not that she would ever leave her person) and has some basic commands down. GILLY's forever family should be willing to continue her training - she is a very fast learner and so willing to learn.

What we would like for GILLY –

  • Retired family or someone(s) who works from home
  • No kids under 12
  • Active family – daily walks play time, etc.
  • Family that is willing to put in some time training and are patient and treat their dogs as members of their family
  • Another canine (or possibly feline) companion in the house
  • Family who will treat GILLY as the princess she is…

GILLY is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention, wormed, micro chipped and spayed. We are working on her house training. So if you are looking for that perfect companion dog who loves you to the moon and beyond –consider putting in an application for GILLY - click on the Adoption Process Button Above. Some family is going to get lucky!

Sorry - GILLY WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.
